Анотаційний переклад – вид технічного перекладу, який полягає у складанні анотації оригінала іншою мовою.
Анотація статті чи книги – це коротка характеристика оригінала, яка подає його зміст у вигляді переліку основних питань, інколи з критичною оцінкою.
Така анотація повинна дати читачеві загальне уявлення про характер оригінала (наукова стаття, технічний опис, науково-популярна книга), про його будову (які питання та у якій послідовності розбираються, які висновки робить автор), про призначення оригінала (на кого розрахований), а також об’єм оригінала, якість викладу, актуальність, обґрунтованість висновків та інші моменти, які характеризують оригінал.
Отже, головна відмінність анотації статті чи книги – це характеристика оригінала.
Об’єм анотаційного перекладу, порівняно з оригіналом, визначається замовником, або редактором, проте анотації об’ємом понад 500 друкованих знаків практично не роблять. При анотаційному перекладі відтворюється лише невелика частина інформації, яка міститься в оригіналі, та ще й у формі характеристики, а не фактичного викладу.
Стиль анотаційного перекладу книги чи статті характеризується значною свободою і визначається лише метою перекладу – дати коротку характеристику оригіналу.
